Clean Up Mac Desktop? 4 Useful Tricks Here!

"Stuffing my desktop with everything I use on my Mac is what I hate doing, and cluttered desktop literally makes me angry. Yet I do it all the time, and over a period of time, my Mac desktop gets filled with icons I never use or hardly ever use. Any solutions for cleaning my desktop?"
A lot of icons and files on the desktop take up precious space on your screen and in your memory, so cleaning up your Mac desktop doesn’t only make the screen look good, but it also makes the machine work faster too. So, we will learn how to clean up desktop on Mac in this article.

How Do I Clean up My Desktop on A Mac

We have gathered a list of the most effective tips and tricks to keep your desktop all nice and clean and your Mac work faster. Let's check out these useful tips below.

Trick 1: Arrange Your Desktop Icons

There are a number of things you can do to arrange your Mac desktop is well-placed columns automatically. Mac provides a very easy solution to automatically re-arrange your Mac desktop. All you need to do is hit Right-click on your desktop and select Show View Options (You can also go in the Finder app and look for this in View-> Show View Option or simply press Command + J) to get this screen.
The selection here gives you the option of automatically arranging your desktop according to Name, Size, Label, Date Modified, Date Created, Date Last Opened, etc. The first thing I would recommend is to check Snap to Grid and then select the arrangement criteria in the way you like.

Extra Tip: The latest Mac OS X Mojave gives you another option to group together your files, which is called Stacks. As the name shows, this feature stacks the common files and folders on one part of your desktop screen instead of everything lying around scattered. It’s very useful when you are fond of putting things you use on the desktop more often. Just open Finder, then click View section and choose "Use Stacks".

Trick 2: Adjust Icon Size on Desktop

Mac has always optimized its features to make them user-friendly, and what makes anything special are the small details. You have the option of adjusting small details when it comes to your desktop icons, you can select the size of the icons on your desktop along with the space between the grid columns. This is an excellent feature to clean up Mac desktop even when you have a large number of icons.

Trick 3: Organize Desktop Items into New Folders on Mac

We talked about the cool stacking feature in the latest macOS X Mojave, but even if you are using an older version of macOS, there is a very easy way to get around this fix. You can group all the items that fall in some category or the other and put them in folders. All you have to do is create a folder on the desktop and name it for the category you would like to group your files in and start throwing everything inside. Isn’t it an amazingly easy way to clean up Mac desktop!

You can right-click anywhere on your Mac desktop and click New Folder (if you are a fan of keyboard shortcuts, just hit Command + Shift + N), rename the folder and here you go.

Trick 4: Hide Desktop Icons on Mac

If you have done the above things to clean up your Mac desktop and still feel that you need more space on your screen. Mac OS Finder lets you hide the items on your screen till the time you want to use them. A number of ways are available to achieve this.
1. Use Finder:
You can go to Finder > Preferences and just select what all devices you want to show or hide on your Mac desktop (The items can always be accessed from the Finder sidebar).
finder hide icons
2. Use Terminal
Another useful tip helps to clear Mac desktop by hiding all your desktop icons temporarily when you are not using anything. This might get a little technical but if you learn this single command, so we don’t recommend this way to beginners. Type the following command in the Terminal application:
terminal hide icons
And a similar command can bring all those hidden icons back to your desktop.
terminal show icons

How to Use Animoji and Memoji Stickers in iOS 13

In iOS 11, Apple introduced animated emoji characters called Animoji, which are designed to mimic your facial expressions. Later in iOS 12, Animoji grew to encompass Memoji, which are customizable humanoid Animoji characters that you can design to look just like you.

Memoji and Animoji are limited to Apple's iPhones with TrueDepth technology, but in iOS 13, Apple added several different Animoji and Memoji stickers that can be used on all Apple devices with an A9 chip or later.

Animoji/Memoji stickers let you express yourself with a character that looks like you, using classic emoji-like poses and faces, such as heart eyes, brain exploding, shushing face, laughing with tears, crying, shrugging, face palm, and more. Keep reading to learn how to use them when sending Messages.

Launch the Messages app on your iPhone or iPad.

Tap the New Message icon in the top-right of the screen, or select an existing message thread that you want to use to send an Animoji/Memoji sticker.

If you're sending a new message, enter a contact in the To: field.

Tap the App Store icon beside the message field, which appears at the top of the onscreen keyboard.

Tap the icon consisting of three Memoji faces.

You'll see a horizontally scrolling list of faces including Animoji and any Memoji you've created. Tap a face to access a selection of pre-defined stickers – select one to send as a message, add a comment if desired and then tap the Send button.

Alternately, tap the plus (+) icon to create a new Memoji, and you'll be sent to the Memoji creation screen.

From here, you can create your lookalike in digital form by choosing from a gallery of facial features and characteristics. When you're happy with your Memoji, tap Done.

Choose a pose from your newly generated Memoji sticker gallery to send as a message, add a comment if desired and then tap the Send button.

Note that Memoji and Animoji stickers are accessible not only in the Messages app, but also in other places like Mail and Notes through the emoji icon on the iOS virtual keyboard.

The Best iOS 13 Features for iPhone

iOS 13 starts off with a bold new look, a dark mode. Finally. But it doesn’t stop there. There are a couple of redesigns for Apple’s own apps as well. And much better privacy controls. Plus, some small features we weren’t even expecting. Here’s our rundown of the best iOS 13 features for iPhone.
Best iOS 13 Features for iPhone

If you want to see all the new features in iOS 13, big or small, in a continuously updated list, take a look at our What’s New in iOS 13 post.
1. System-Wide Dark Mode

iOS 13 has a beautiful new look with the Dark mode. It extends from dynamic wallpaper, dark lockscreen, dark widgets to the dark stock apps.

The Dark mode can be turned on manually from Control Center or can be scheduled to turn on based on sunset time. Once the dark mode is enabled, it is enabled everywhere, including apps. And if third-party developers update to iOS 13 APIs, third-party apps can automatically switch to the dark theme inside the app as well.
2. Redesigned Photos App

Apple has redesigned the photo viewing and editing experience. Photos app has a beautiful dark mode that puts the focus on the photos first.

In the new Photos tab, you’ll find sub tabs for Days, Months and Years. The photos can be zoomed in using pinch to zoom gesture. The Days tab removes all the clutter from your library and only shows the best photos for the day. It hides screenshots, photos of receipts and anything with text on it.

The Years tab is contextual and shows a photo from the particular day across the past years.
3. Brand new Reminders App

The Reminders app has been redesigned from the ground up and it’s a modern app now. It supports natural language input.

So you can just start typing your reminder and it will figure out the reminder part, the date, time and the place automatically.

Or you can use the new toolbar to quickly add time, date, location, flags, photos and scanned documents to your reminders.

There’s a Smart Lists feature that automatically organizes your reminders and groups them based on Flagged, Scheduled and Today.
4. Sign in With Apple

Sign in With Apple is Apple’s genius way to protect your privacy when logging into a new website or service. If they choose to use the Sign in with Apple button, the app won’t get any of your personal data. No name, email, phone number. You’ll be authenticated using Face ID and that’s it.

Optionally, if an app requires an email, you can also choose to hide your real email address. In that case, Apple will automatically create a random email address that’s unique for the given app and will forward the emails to your real email.
5. Better Privacy Controls for Location Access

Apple is getting much stricter with who has access to your location and when. Now, you can choose to allow location to an app just once.

Apple will also send alerts when an app is using location data in the background. Apple is also blocking apps from accessing metadata for Bluetooth and Wi-Fi devices so it can’t use that to estimate your current location either.
6. New Maps Features

Maps app has a new start page. At the bottom sheet, you’ll see a row of your frequent places. You can customize this to add locations that you go to often.

There’s a Collections feature that lets you create a collection of multiple places and add photos as well. This is very helpful if you’re planning a trip. Then you can share the collection as well. Speaking of sharing, you can now instantly share your ETA from the navigation screen on the Maps app.

Apple also revealed that its new remapping project is going well. They will have covered the whole US by the end of the year.

Apple is also adding a Street View-like feature called Look Around to the Maps app.
7. Siri Improvements

Siri’s voice is new and improved. It now only uses Neural text to speech engine to generate the voice. This means it’s much smoother and easier on the ears. Siri also works better with AirPods. When you get a message, Siri will read it to you automatically and you can choose to reply instantly.

Siri on the HomePod is also getting better. It can now recognize multiple users. Multi-user support is available for music, notes, calendar, reminders and more.
8. Memoji Everywhere

Memoji creation is a lot more diverse now. They now feature new hairstyles, headwear, makeup, piercings, and accessories.

But the best part is that the new Memoji Stickers are available everywhere. If an iOS device is running an A9 chip or higher, it can create a Memoji from the Messages app. Once a Memoji is created, Apple automatically creates a sticker pack for it! That sticker app is available in the Messages app and is integrated directly into the stock keyboard.

So now, you can send Memoji Stickers even in apps like WhatsApp and WeChat.
9. An Upgraded CarPlay Experience

Apple has redesigned the CarPlay experience with iOS 13. There’s a new three-pane dashboard view which has music controls and suggested actions on the right side. Plus, you get a new Calendar app, in dark mode.

Siri on CarPlay now works with third-party apps like Waze and Pandora.
10. iOS 13 Solves Little Annoyances

iOS 13 is a release of little features. Here are just some of the small annoyances that it helps solve.

Gesture typing: You can now use gestures to easily type on the iPhone using just one hand.

New Volume HUD: There’s a new volume HUD that shows up on the left side of the screen which is a lot less intrusive.

Share Audio with two AirPods: One iPhone can play music with two different AirPods, in sync.

Apple Removes All Content from iTunes Pages on Facebook and Instagram, Starts Redirecting URLs

Apple seems all set to kill the iTunes branding with the next major release of macOS. As a report had previously detailed, Apple will be bundling standalone Music, TV, and Podcasts apps in macOS 10.15 which will offer the same set of functionality as iTunes but via separate packages. Now, ahead of WWDC 2019, where Apple is expected to announce this change, the company has silently started killing the iTunes brand online.

It has removed all social media content from iTunes page on Facebook and Instagram. The two profiles are now empty without any content, with Apple migrating the Facebook page followers to its Apple TV page. On Instagram, Apple is now simply directing users to its @AppleTV account instead of iTunes.

Apple has even started redirecting all itunes.apple.com links to music.apple.com which all but confirms that iTunes is going to get axed at WWDC 2019 this week. Up until last month, even App Store links had ‘itunes’ in their URL. Apple is now using URLs depending on the category of the content being shared. For example, the URL for sharing iOS apps is apps.apple.com while that of music is music.apple.com.

https://twitter.com/kylesethgray/status/1134985559678439424

iTunes has been Apple’s digital storefront for almost two decades now. Despite that, the app has been subjected to a fair bit of criticism because of its bloated nature and poor performance. iTunes is still expected to be a part of the next major macOS release despite Apple bundling new standalone apps that offer the same functionality as it. Instead of killing the app and brand in one shot, Apple will likely make it redundant in a phased out manner.
We Want to Hear From You

Are you happy that Apple is replacing iTunes with a new set of apps? Here’s hoping that the new apps are not as bloated and confusing to use as iTunes.

A Comprehensive Guide on Fixing an Android Phone or Tablet That Refuses to Turn On

Case 1. The Phone Is Actually On but the Screen Isn't On

If this is the case with you, your phone is turned on but you simply cannot see anything on the screen. Your screen has gone blank and so you cannot use any of the features of the phone.

Since the operating system is intact and you know your phone is on, you may want to check if the issue is with the screen as that is what has gone blank. You may take the screen of your phone out and find out if it is indeed the cause of the issue.

If required, you may even replace the screen with a new one and that should resolve the issue for you.
Case 2. You Dropped Your Phone Or It Has Gotten Wet

Your phone getting dropped and becoming wet is a common issue amongst smartphone users. This mostly happens in areas where it rains a lot but may happen at your home as well. If your phone has gotten wet due to it landing in a bucket of water or on a water floor, you may want to do a few things to dry it up.

One of the useful remedies is to put your phone in a sealed bag with uncooked rice overnight. The rice will soak up the water and your phone will be dry the next morning. You may then try rebooting your phone to see if it boots-up without any issues.
Case 3. Your Charger or Cable Got Damaged
Especially while traveling, if you are not careful enough, you will end-up causing damage to your charging cable and to your charger. When that happens, your phone will not charge and it will not turn on either as it simply does not have any power left on it.

If you are facing a similar issue, you may try changing your charging cable and the whole charger to see if that helps resolve your Android tablet wont turn on issue. It should likely fix the issue if the cable is the culprit.
Conclusion

If "my Android phone wont turn on" has put you in worries, the above guide provides you with multiple methods to fix your Android phone or tablet that refuses to turn on. We hope the guide helps you out and your phone or tablet starts working normally again.
